Our team specialises in assessments of children with complex mental health needs. Below is a link to an article that describes the issues uncovered by the team in a series of 20 consecutive referrals via the Adoption Support Fund. A careful and comprehensive assessment by the team revealed a significant amount of unmet mental health need in the children, even those who had previously had several CAMHS assessments. On average the team uncovered over three times as many areas of need in these children than had been identified before they came to us – and we were able to remove a number of unhelpful or inappropriate descriptions too. In particular, there was evidence for some fuzzy thinking about problems for these adopted children which led to quite specific and treatable problems being missed and unnecessary stress being placed on families.
