We accept referrals from anywhere in the UK, and even abroad, and although based in London we do much of our work with families outside of the capital.

Who can refer?

We are an NHS service, and in the past many referrals have come from local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), paediatricians and other health professionals. However, increasingly we have been seeing families referred by Local Authority post-adoption services and Voluntary Adoption Agencies.

Many referrals now come to us by the Department of Education’s Adoption Support Fund, which a Local Authority social worker can apply for after they have conducted a brief needs assessment with you. We are happy to be contacted directly by families, health professionals or other potential referrers to discuss the referral process and provide you with all the relevant information.

How to refer?

The first step of the referral process is to fill in our referral form. This can be downloaded to your computer and completed electronically and sent back by password-protected email to caftservice@slam.nhs.uk.

Alternatively, it can be printed out and sent back to us by fax (020 3228 5011) or post it to the National Adoption & Fostering Clinic at:

Michael Rutter Centre
Maudsley Hospital
De Crespigny Park
London
