The National Adoption and Fostering Clinic is an NHS service for adoptive and foster families. We are situated in London but work with families both nationally and internationally. We are part of the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

Our work is based on a comprehensive and holistic assessment of children and young people’s needs. We are committed to understanding children as individuals, personalising our assessments and treatments to each family.

After assessment, we design a bespoke treatment package, that can be delivered either by our team or by other services. Our treatments are based on the latest evidence and are delivered by highly skilled practitioners that are specialists in the field of adoption and fostering.

Please note that some of the cases refer to our clinic will present with some risks to self, to others or from others. Due to the commissioning structure of our service, there can be some waits during the process (from referral, to application of funding, and our own waiting list) and our service is unable to manage the risk during that time. As the evidence is clear that risk should be managed at local level and if highly complex, by multiagency teams. Please make sure that the family and young person have the appropriate information about emergency services in their area, and how to access them in crisis (e.g. GP, NHS Direct – 111, ChildLine – 0800 1111, Samaritans – 0845 790 9090, YoungMinds Crisis Messenger – text 85258, local A&E or other local services)
